Through the CalMutuals-Department of Water Resources (DWR) Small Supplier Water Conservation Assistance Program, CalMutuals is supporting drought-vulnerable mutual water companies by installing residential meters and replacing inefficient toilets and showerheads. Funding provided by Gov. Gavin Newsom represents a meaningful state investment in small water systems that are often overlooked.

A key factor in the Program’s success is the support of expert local water operators who stepped up to support installations and system upgrades. Many are current or retired professionals who helped locate valves, coordinate shutoffs, communicate with customers, troubleshoot challenges and support data tracking — reducing the need for outside contractors and allowing resources to reach more small suppliers.

CalMutuals and DWR extend sincere thanks to:

  • Mike Alvarado, La Cumbre Mutual Water Company (supporting San Vicente Mobile Home Park)
  • Dan Aldridge, retired City of Gilroy (supporting Los Carneros Water System)
  • Jose Herrera, Maywood Mutual Water Company No. 1 (supporting Del Rio Mutual Water Company)
  • Wade Shorrock, Antelope Valley–East Kern Water Agency (supporting Mettler Valley Mutual Water Company)

These often-unrecognized professionals are essential partners in delivering safe, reliable, and affordable water. Their leadership shows how state programs can achieve greater impact by partnering with local experts.
